What’s more rewarding than building success by turning your passion into a profession? And what if you pursue two such passions simultaneously to become the fruitful branches of your success story? Here are some slices of fond memories of how I found happiness in connecting the dots between baking and HR.

Baking and HR have always been the twin faces of my passion. Coming from a Christian family, baking has always been close to my heart. One day I brought my homemade cookies to share, and the feedback was incredible. Everyone loved them so much that they urged me to start my own baking business. And guess what? I did it! Building a business during the lockdown was a challenge, but I never gave up. From cupcakes of different flavours to our best-selling brownies, I discovered that nothing gives me more joy than seeing the happy faces of customers who delight in my delicious cakes. Initially, I had ordered 100 boxes as a buffer, and I never imagined I would be lucky enough to sell even 20. But, gradually, my business began to pick up momentum, and before I knew it, I was receiving 300-400 orders in just two months!

In the world of HR, just like in baking, there’s a recipe for success that involves blending different ingredients to create something wonderful. Just as a baker meticulously selects the finest ingredients for their cake, an HR professional carefully chooses the right candidates to build a successful company. As an HR professional, I have always been passionate about the entire employee lifecycle – right from recruitment, learning and development, and employee engagement to operations. I take great pride in hunting and nurturing employees that are the building blocks of the organisation’s success. Employee development became like the icing on the cake for me, enriching the lives of my team members just as frosting enhances the taste of a baked masterpiece. By providing training and mentorship, I was able to empower my employees to reach their full potential, fostering a culture of growth and achievement. However, just like baking, HR is not without its challenges. Just as a cake may fall if not baked with care, employee morale can plummet if not nurtured with attention. Through experience, I have learned to navigate through setbacks, adjusting my approach like a skilled baker, tweaking a recipe until it’s just right.

I joined Bizom straight out of college and owe everything to the company, as I learned everything related to HR here. I started by picking up recruitment positions and successfully closing them one by one. After that, I moved on to planning learning and development programs for different teams based on the identified skill gaps. Later, I was involved in employee engagement, where I organised events and held regular check-ins to ensure their growth and career development within the company. Lately, I’ve started picking up operational tasks in HR such as audits and year-end processes. Bizom gave me a diverse range of experiences and responsibilities in HR, allowing me to become a jack of all trades and a master of one.

Through this journey, I learned the true meaning of perseverance and hard work. Managing my HR job with my baking business was not easy, but it taught me to manage my time efficiently and prioritise my tasks. The most exciting part? Seeing my employees happy and motivated within the organisation while keeping my customers happy with my tasty dishes and onboarding prospective candidates to Bizom.
